My name is Julie Strassburger and I was born and raised in Southeast Texas. I have always loved dresses and fabric and everything to do with creating. I learned to sew as a child, making doll clothes and Barbie clothes. As I learned more, I began making my own clothes in high school using Vogue couture patterns. I always thought, if I’m going to make my own clothes then they should be a reflection of my own personality.

I followed my passion for designing and sewing and studied fashion at Lamar University. I graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in home economics, focusing on fashion design and merchandising. After graduating and meeting my husband, Ken, I moved to Houston in 1994. After getting married, Ken and I worked several different places figuring out what we both wanted. What did I want to do when I grew up?

In 1996, I opened Dress your Furniture for all things practical. I discovered that our furniture we live on everyday needed dresses too, not just us. My slip covers needed to be washable and easy to slip on and off. Once creating the perfect slip cover to wash weekly, the business took off. After years of taking a break, I am back and better than I have ever been.
